Mr. Davis' and Ms Duignan's 1st class created some autumnal art as well as water based painting inspired by the artist Paul Klee. They also recorded their rendition of the song " Don't Worry Be Happy".

Circle of Friends
As 2nd class ends, the children will remember that they will always be one big circle of friends!
Diamond Art
2nd class created these amazing summer flower drink coasters with diamond art. They worked hard and their designs are incredible. Well done everyone!
School Tour
The children took part in so many activities on their school tour to Navan Adventure Centre. They did an obstacle course, dodgeball, tug of war, archery, olympic handball, footgolf and lazer tag. It was a brilliant day!
Autism and Neurodiversity Awareness
As a school we celebrated how everyone is different in every way.
Mindfulness time: Second class took 30 minutes of mindfulness time where they listened to calming music as they coloured pictures.
Art: We completed art activities outside which involved painting on paper plate flowers, painting on cling film and using chalk on the path. The children really enjoyed this time!
This is Me: As a class, the children drew objects/activities that represent them as a person and it was lovely seeing their various drawings coming together.
Walk: All four second classes went on a mindfulness walk around the school campus in the beautiful sunshine holding something that brings them happiness.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
This week we celebrated the Irish language with lots of fun activities.
Story: Children from sixth class read the story ‘An Chircín Bheag Rua’ (The Little Red Hen) for second class to listen to. It was lovely hearing familiar stories read aloud in Irish.
Concert: Our Ceolchoirm was held in the PE hall and all four classes of second class performed two poems and a song. They were brilliant!
Irish Morning: We held our Maidin Gaelach where we spent time playing games/doing art/completing activities in Irish. The children put great effort in to using their Irish!
Green Day: Our Lá Glas was a day where children came to school dressed in green with lots of St. Patrick’s Day accessories.
Irish Dancing: We had our Céilí in the PE hall and second class danced brilliantly in their groups!
Drama: Second class watched a drama called ‘An Seachtopus’. They really enjoyed seeing a simple story acted out through Irish.
Art: The class created people using shamrocks which helped spread the spirit and excitement of St. Patrick’s Day!
Daffodils
These daffodils were painted by second class and they turned out amazing. The children varied the colours of their daffodils which makes each artwork different and equally beautiful!
Easter Chicks
With Easter approaching second class took mindfulness time to create these little Easter chicks. They added different details which included wings, an egg shell, ears, bows and hearts. Happy Easter!
Spring is here
Second class painted these amazing pictures of a bicycle holding lovely spring flowers. They used vibrant colours which light up the hallway and show other classes that ‘Tá an t-Earrach linn’ (Spring is here).
Assembly Awards
Congratulations to February’s winners of the classroom awards! There were awards for showing curiosity, being honest, being a digital learner, being an active citizen and being the Gaeilgóir (Irish speaker) of the month. Well done everyone!
Hip-Hop Class:
A hip-hop dance teacher came in for the day to teach the children some dance moves. They began with a warm up and then learned the dance steps one by one. At the end, they performed the dance altogether with some children adding in their own creative dance moves!
Chinese New Year:
To celebrate Chinese New Year, 2nd class created lanterns using red, orange and yellow crepe paper and they coloured dragon masks. Lanterns and dragon symbols are often used during Chinese New Year celebrations. The class also coloured a picture of a temple, cut it out and glued it to black card. Then they used chalk pastels to create fireworks in the background. Fabulous work!
Kahoot:
6th class created a fun quiz on Kahoot for 2nd class. The children used the iPads to join the quiz and worked with their partners to answer the questions as quickly and as accurately as they could. They really enjoyed it and hope to do another quiz with 6th class soon!
Diamond Art:
The children created these beautiful diamond art Christmas pictures. They spent a few days completing them and they turned out amazing! What a lovely piece of work to bring home for Christmas!
Colourful Penguins:
The children used different coloured paints to create these striped colourful backgrounds. While these dried, the class made their penguins using black, white and orange card. When the backgrounds were dry, the children glued their penguin to them. Their art brightened up the classroom so well!
The Water Cycle Experiment:
Our student teacher was teaching the class about The Water Cycle. She led an experiment so the children could see the water cycle in action. They put water and blue food colouring in eight ziplock bags. Four of them were taped to the window and the other four were taped to the wall. Over the next few days, the children could see the blue water droplets in the bags on the windows rose higher than the droplets in the bags on the wall since the sun caused the water to evaporate quicker. What a great experiment!
Floating and Sinking:
Our student teacher discussed the topic of floating and sinking with the class. The children suggested what types of objects would float or sink. Our student teacher showed the children five objects: cube, feather, counter, lollipop stick and dice. They wrote down their predictions as to what would float or sink. They worked in their table groups to complete the experiment and recorded their results. There were great discussions around this topic!
History:
Our student teacher taught the class about Grace O’Malley ‘The Pirate Queen’ which the children engaged well with. They used different types of evidence such as maps, pictures, letters, invoices and paintings to explore the type of life a sailor had at that time in history. The children were great historians!
November:
Collage Art:
Our student teacher showed the children pictures of how small pieces of card or paper can be used to create a full picture. The children used small squares of dark blue, light blue, purple, pink, yellow and light yellow to create the background. When they were finished, they stuck a tree made from black card on top. They look amazing in the hallway!

Winter Sky Paintings:
Our student teacher showed the children how to use various coloured paints to create a Winter sky. She also helped the children draw, cut out and stick trees made from black card onto their paintings to create silhouettes of trees in front of their colourful Winter sky. Very creative!
Bí Cineálta:
In the hall outside our classroom, we created a display to show how important being kind to others is. We added friendship keys the children created and anti-bullying posters in the shape of balloons. We have a very kind class!
Winter Scene Art:
The children used paint to create these amazing Winter scenes. They blended blue, white and black paint to create the sky. Using black paint, they added details such as trees, birds and stars. They have brilliant art skills!
Card Games:
In a history lesson, the class were discussing different card games that were played in the past and what card games they still play now. One of these games was Go Fish, which the children learned to play. It was great seeing them enjoy a game which has been played for many years before.
Maths Week:
The children really enjoyed Maths Week this year. We played different games in class and completed challenges on the interactive whiteboard looking at shapes, patterns and addition. The children also took part in a maths quiz which they really enjoyed. Maths is all around us!

Halloween Art:
Second class created some fantastic Halloween art pieces over the last few weeks. They created their own haunted houses and added lots of scary details. The children used pastels to create their mighty monsters. They also used cotton buds and glue to create spooky skeletons. We have incredible art skills in this class!
Autumn Squirrels
We incorporated the season of Autumn into our art lesson this week. The children created this artwork by first colouring a template of the squirrel. Then using glue, they stuck pieces of scrunched up red, orange, yellow and green crepe paper onto the page to become the autumn leaves falling to the ground. Some also drew trees and added blue for the sky. We definitely have many 'Amazing Artists' in this class!
Picasso:
We have been learning about Picasso in September and the way he created his amazing art pieces. The children used his techniques to create these ‘Picasso Portraits’. Lots of effort went into these and they turned out fantastic!
Ms E Hyland's Section
We spent some lovely time out in the school garden looking for leaves and seeds. Beech trees are the most plentiful and we found lots of beech nuts. The children collected a couple for planting and left the rest for nature and wildlife. They collected an assortment of leaves; different colours and sizes. When we came back inside the children experimented with leaf rubbings and have been amazed at the results!
September:
We have settled in nicely to 2nd Class. The children have been working so well together making jigsaws in groups and also playing games. They have been practising turn taking and sharing! They have also been learning about Autumn and we even have our own class pumpkins! The children made some beautiful art using crepe paper and a lovely Autumn squirrel.

October:
October has been all about becoming authors! We’ve been busy writing narrative stories for our class book, The Enchanted Forest. Everyone has worked so hard to make their stories the best they can be, and we’re so excited to send the book off to be published!. Soon we’ll each be real authors!!
September:
We’ve been exploring all things autumn! The children enjoyed nature walks and nature hunts around the school grounds, discovering caterpillars, eggs, and other exciting signs of the season. During Golden Time, we had fun playing chess and creating beautiful autumn art — including leaf prints and colourful squirrel collages made with real leaves.

2nd class really got into the festive spirit this month. They made lots of beautiful art work. They also really enjoyed making these delicious Rice Krispie buns and decorated them with marshmallows and sprinkles!
