Hands-on Science lesson

Students in Ms. McFadden’s class had a fun, hands-on science lesson today making model volcanoes. Working in groups, they built their creations and watched them erupt using a baking soda reaction—sparking lots of excitement!

5th Class Butterfly Project

Ms. McFadden’s 5th Class recently explored the life cycle of butterflies through a hands-on project. The pupils cared for caterpillars, observing as they formed cocoons and later emerged as butterflies. Once hatched, the class fed and looked after the butterflies before releasing them into the school garden.

 

Say Yes to Languages programme

5th class recently tried some Spanish food as part of the Say Yes to Languages programme in our school. They loved tasting a selection of meats, cheese, croquettes, olives, churros and even anchovies! Great fun was had and there were some very brave children!

Today marked an exciting milestone for our 5th Class as they began their cycling lessons!
With the sunshine on their side, the students headed out full of enthusiasm, ready to build their confidence and learn important cycling skills.
We’re looking forward to seeing their progress over the coming weeks as they continue to develop their abilities.

Ms. McFadden’s 5th Class took part in making St. Brigid’s Crosses.
They learned about the story of St. Brigid. The pupils worked carefully and helped one another as they wove their crosses. It was an enjoyable activity and everyone was proud of their finished work.

Ms. McFadden’s Fifth Class have been amazing role models and friends to their Junior Infant buddies this term. Each week, they’ve teamed up with the younger students to help them settle into school life with confidence, kindness, and fun!

 

June

We started June on a high note after the Bank Holiday weekend with our school tour to Alive Adventure in County Wicklow. The children had a fantastic day filled with fun, excitement, and teamwork.
Throughout the day, they took part in a wide range of outdoor activities, from swimming in the lake and building forts to tackling challenging obstacle courses. The children showed great enthusiasm, courage, and determination as they stepped outside their comfort zones and tried new experiences.
It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another, working together, and making lasting memories with their classmates.
Well done to all the children for their excellent behaviour and positive attitude throughout the day!

 

February & March

February and March were busy and enjoyable months in our classroom. In February, we warmed up with a special hot chocolate treat, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
In March, we celebrated World Book Day and had great fun dressing up as our favourite book characters. The creativity and effort that went into the costumes were fantastic. Well done to everyone who took part!
We also marked St. Patrick’s Day with a Green Day celebration and created some beautiful St. Patrick’s Day artwork. The children worked hard on their colourful creations, which brightened up our classroom and showcased their artistic talents. We enjoyed an Irish ceili down in the PE hall too!

It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, creativity, and participation from all the pupils throughout these activities.

We explored the theme of Outer Space in SESE. The class showed great curiosity as we learned about the planets, stars, and the solar system, and the pupils really enjoyed discovering new and interesting facts.

During Art, the children created beautiful outer space paintings, using vibrant colours to design planets, galaxies, and star-filled skies. They then worked in groups of four or five to complete a project based on Outer Space. Using their iPads and SESE textbooks to research information, they collaborated wonderfully and presented their work with great confidence. I was very impressed with their teamwork and enthusiasm throughout this topic.

 

February:

In February, we celebrated St. Brigid’s Day by using rushes to create our St. Brigid’s crosses. It definitely tested our patience at times. With a little practice and teamwork, we all eventually got the hang of it. We were very proud of our hard work and the lovely decorations we created.

 

December:

December was a busy and exciting month in Ms. Collier’s class! We decorated our classroom and got creative by painting our windows with festive designs. We loved working on all of our Christmas art and showing off our creativity.

One of the highlights of the month was visiting Junior Infants, our buddy class. We helped them with their Christmas art, and it was so much fun working together and spreading some festive cheer!

October:

The students in Ms Collier's class got very creative over the month of October in their Halloween art. They all made very creative and spooky pieces of art.
The students made a huge effort with their Halloween costumes this year too, well done!!

September:

We have had a busy month in September settling into Ms Colliers 5th Class. This month we were learning all about 'The Great Irish Famine' in History. The students worked in groups to create projects on The Great Irish Famine using everything they had learnt and iPads to find extra facts! Excellent team work and presentation skills were shown, well done everyone!!

In art, we got creative and used clay to create our interpretation of Famine Cottages.

Using plus plus boxes, the students in groups were given the task to create a bridge that could hold the weight of a pencil case or two!!

The children have been busy lately completing maths problems relating to Chance, participating in the 'This is Me' parade, and creating some fabulous summer art.

We enjoyed constructing 3D shapes using concrete materials and nets to learn more about the properties of each shape. We practised drawing our own nets and constructing them to make 3D shapes also.
In Irish, we did fantastic writing on 'An Aimsir' and presented our 'Réamháisnéis na hAimsire' to the class.

5th Class have been taking part in Tag Rugby lessons as part of PE. We are learning lots of passing and teamwork skills.

5th Class enjoyed some data activities for Maths Week - Skittle Charts! We estimated, counted and represented our findings on bar charts. We calculated the average of each coloured Skittle in our groups and got to enjoy them as a treat after!

Ms Barrett & Ms Beirne's 5th class have been learning all about The Great Irish Famine. The children have been busy researching facts and have worked together really well to complete their projects. They also presented their projects to their teachers and the rest of the class which everyone enjoyed.

Our mobile shop was a big success today! A huge well done to Mrs Flood’s 5th class for demonstrating excellent business skills and for using Lámh signs while working with Cairde Nua and Sonas.

Mr. Curtis’s class have been busy recently working on 3D shapes in Maths with the children creating their own shapes using matchsticks.

In Music, the children really enjoyed using Keynote to present their music decade to the rest of the class. Well done to all of the children

Recently, our class took part in the Intel Mini-Scientist Competition. The children worked extremely hard in groups to create their science projects, project books and posters. Well done to everyone involved and thank you to the Parents/Guardians who gave a helping hand along the way!

‘Mr. Curtis’ class recently completed their SESE project on Meath. The children each got a place in Meath to research and complete a project on. Well done to all groups and individuals who put in a great deal of work. Look how fantastic they turned out!’

Mr. O’Connor’s class were very busy this term. We were exploring length and multiplication during maths week, helping out our buddy class in senior infants, making pumpkins out of clay and dressing up for Halloween! We even got to taste some of our own home grown apples from the school garden!

October got off to a great start with a visit from the Busit2school project supported by Meath County Council to help the students learn about road safety and taking the bus. Each student received a leap card to use over the next few weeks!

September has been a busy month for 6th class! They worked really hard on their Meath projects and they turned out fantastic, well done to everyone! Lots of lovely art completed this month too!
